ABOUT

Why i3 Leadership exists

i3 Leadership works with leaders in high-stakes, regulated organisations, where decisions carry consequences for other people.

Pressure changes the conditions in which leaders think, decide and act. i3 Leadership helps leaders create the clarity to see the situation as it is, exercise sound judgement and act with courage when the conditions for doing so are hardest.

A minimal lighthouse sending out light over moving water.

AT THE HEART OF THE WORK IS ONE QUESTION

What happens to good leaders when demands intensify?

Where it began

i3 Leadership grew from more than 20 years of leading, developing leaders and working alongside people carrying significant responsibility.

It’s founder, Julie Goddard, spent much of her career in education, including senior leadership in challenging schools and work as an Ofsted inspector. Her work has since taken her across care, health, housing, education and financial services, working with leaders operating in high-stakes and regulated environments.

Different sectors bring different pressures, but many of the leadership questions remain remarkably similar

Those questions continue to shape i3 Leadership today.

Pressure distorts perception

Pressure rarely extinguishes our light. More often, it narrows the beam slowly enough that we barely notice it happening.

i3 Leadership calls this the Distortion Effect™, and it sits at the heart of the i3 approach.

Drawing on organisational psychology, leadership practice and evidence-based development, i3 Leadership helps leaders navigate the realities of leading under pressure.

What i3 Leadership stands for

Five Core Leadership Principles underpin the work of i3 Leadership.

Clarity

We seek to see the situation as it is, not simply as it first appears. We question our assumptions, notice what we may be missing and remain open to a different view.

Disciplined Leadership

We resist the pull to react. We create enough space to think, focus on what matters and act with intention.

Integrity

We know what we stand for and what we will not trade away. Our values and standards remain visible in the choices we make.

Sound
Judgement

We make choices when there is no perfect answer. We weigh what matters, test our options and take responsibility for the choice we make.

Summoned Courage

We act on what we judge to be right, even when doing so could bring uncertainty, resistance or risk. Summoned courage turns what we know and value into action.

Together, the principles provide a foundation for i3 Leadership programmes, coaching and tools without prescribing a single way to lead.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCREDITATIONS

Beyond the CV: a note the founder

Hello! Away from work, I’m usually reading something that has sent me down another intellectual rabbit hole, negotiating with two Labradors: Inca (somewhat sneaky, yet mostly adorable) and Bracken (mischievous, muddy-pawed and cheerfully unaware of personal space), and our cat, who believes he owns the house.

Curiosity probably connects all of it. I’m drawn to good questions, new ideas and discovering something I hadn’t noticed before.

Life is rarely dull.

Making better possible.

i3 Leadership develops leaders who can see more clearly, judge more wisely and act with courage under pressure.
